Arthritis (often called rheumatism) can affect all people from tiny babies to the elderly. It means joint (arth) inflammation fits). There are over 100 different forms of arthritis. Two of the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Causes

  • Protect your joints: Use large joints whenever possible to do a task (e.g. use your whole arm instead of your hand to open a door).
  • Wear well-designed shoes.
  • Try not to sit, stand or lie in one position for too long.
  • Slide or wheel object instead of lifting them.
  • Keep at your ideal weight with a balanced diet.
  • Share common concern with others.
